Prosecutors in Jeffrey Epstein sex traffic case investigating ‘uncharged individuals’

>Federal prosecutors in New York who have lodged child sex trafficking charges against wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein are investigating other “uncharged individuals,” a new court filing says.

>Prosecutors made that disclosure as part of a request to the judge in Epstein’s case to order all parties in the case, including Epstein and his defense team, to not publicly disclose any information turned over by prosecutors to the defense as the case heads to trial.

>So far, Epstein is the only person charged in his case.

>However, prosecutors earlier this month said that Epstein — who is a former friend of Presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton — worked and conspired with employees, associates and others “who facilitated his conduct by, among other things, contacting victims and scheduling their sexual encounters with Epstein.”

>Prosecutors have said that Epstein paid $350,000 to two potential witnesses in his case days after an explosive report about him was published by The Miami Herald in late 2018.

>In their filing on Thursday night in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, prosecutors said that “certain documents and materials” that they give to Epstein’s team “would impede, if prematurely disclosed, the Government’s ongoing investigation of uncharged individuals.”

>The filing also says that disclosure of such information “would risk prejudicial pretrial publicity,” and “affect the privacy and confidentiality of individuals.”

>Prosecutors as a rule share information about evidence with a defendant’s lawyers in a process known as discovery.

>Judge Richard Berman approved the prosecution’s request, which was not opposed by Epstein’s lawyers, shortly after it was filed.

Apollo Scrambles To Distance Itself From Leon Black’s Ties To Epstein

>For decades billionaire Leon Black turned to Jeffrey Epstein for financial advice, even years after the enigmatic financier was convicted of sex offenses.

>Now Black’s Apollo Global Management is trying to distance itself from Black’s dealings with Epstein, who this month was arrested on federal charges that he molested and exploited teenage girls. Epstein, who’s being held in a Manhattan jail, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

>The New York-based firm conducted an internal review into its involvement with Epstein, a registered sex offender since 2009, to ensure that any ties go no further than the firm’s co-founder, people with knowledge of the matter said.

>They looked at emails and records to determine there was no connection between the company and Epstein, one of the people said.

>Black said in a draft of a memo poised to be distributed to employees that “Apollo has never done any business with Mr. Epstein at any point in time.”

>Epstein has “provided professional services to my family partnership and related family entities, involving tax, estate planning and philanthropic advice,” Black said in the memo. He added: “I was completely unaware of, and am deeply troubled by, the conduct that is now the subject of the federal criminal charges brought against him.”

Palestine’s Abbas suspends ALL agreements with Israel
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has announced that all standing agreements with the state of Israel will be suspended indefinitely, following the bulldozing of homes in the occupied West Bank.

President Abbas announced the decision on Thursday afternoon, and said it would take effect by Friday. The move comes in response to the Israeli government’s demolition of homes in Wadi Hummus, a Palestinian community in southeast Jerusalem.

“We will not obey the dictatorship and reject attempts to impose accomplished facts, particularly in East Jerusalem,” Abbas said, following a meeting with senior Palestinian leadership in Ramallah, according to the WAFA news agency.

Palestine and East Jerusalem cannot be a subject of bargaining.

“The hands of the Palestinians are still stretched out towards a just and comprehensive peace, … but this does not mean that we are ready to capitulate and coexist with the occupation,” he added.

Tel Aviv recently announced plans to clear the way for new settlements in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem. The move was slammed by the European Union as “an obstacle to peace” which “continues to undermine the possibility of a viable two state solution.”

That promise is reportedly reflected in Washington’s peace plan, dubbed in the media the “deal of the century” even though its contents have not yet been revealed. Reports claim it would offer to formally place the settlements under Israeli legal control as part of the deal, a condition vocally contested by the Palestinians.
